GST calculator: add or remove GST
Enter an amount, pick the rate and say whether the price already includes GST. You get the tax, the price before and after GST, and the CGST and SGST split for a sale within your state or IGST for a sale to another state.
The formulas. Adding GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Removing GST: price before tax = GST-inclusive price × 100 ÷ (100 + rate). Within a state the tax splits half CGST, half SGST; between states it is all IGST.

| 18% | Most other goods and services, including most professional and IT services and consumer durables such as air conditioners that moved down from 28% |
| 40% | Luxury and sin goods, for example aerated and sweetened drinks |

Worked examples
Adding 18% GST to a service
A consultant bills ₹50,000 to a client in the same state. GST = 50,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹9,000, split into ₹4,500 CGST and ₹4,500 SGST. Invoice total ₹59,000.
Taking 5% GST out of an MRP
A shop sells a product at ₹1,050 including 5% GST. Price before tax = 1,050 × 100 ÷ 105 = ₹1,000, so GST inside the price is ₹50 (₹25 CGST and ₹25 SGST).
An inter-state sale
A Surat mill sells yarn worth ₹2,40,000 at 5% to a buyer in Ludhiana. The whole ₹12,000 is IGST, because supplier and buyer are in different states.

How do I calculate GST on an amount?
Multiply the amount before tax by the GST rate and divide by 100. For ₹10,000 at 18%, GST is ₹1,800 and the price with GST is ₹11,800.
How do I remove GST from a price that already includes it?
Divide the GST-inclusive price by (100 + rate) and multiply by 100. For ₹11,800 at 18%: 11,800 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹10,000 before tax, so the GST inside the price is ₹1,800.
When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?
When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state (or union territory), the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST). When they are in different states, the full rate is charged as IGST. Imports are also taxed as IGST.
What are the GST rates in India now?
From 22 September 2025 (GST 2.0) most goods and services fall in two slabs, 5% and 18%, with a 40% rate for luxury and sin goods such as aerated drinks. Essentials can be nil-rated, and special rates of 3% (gold and jewellery) and 0.25% (rough diamonds) continue. Check the exact rate for your HSN or SAC code on the CBIC rate finder.
Are the 12% and 28% GST rates gone?
For most items, yes: the GST Council moved most 12% items to 5% and most 28% items to 18% from 22 September 2025. A few products, such as some tobacco items, stayed on older rates during the transition, so the calculator also accepts a custom rate.
Is GST charged on the discount or on the full price?
On the transaction value after a discount that is shown on the invoice at the time of supply. Discounts given later count only if they were agreed in advance and the matching input tax credit is reversed by the buyer.
