Quick commerce grew at triple-digit rates. Customer service did not grow at all.
Indian e-commerce is compounding at 18.4% a year. The support, RTO and reconciliation load underneath it compounds at the same rate — usually against a fixed headcount.
The fastest-growing channel is also the least forgiving
Quick commerce expanded at a 110–130% CAGR over 2021–25 to US$ 7–8 billion in FY25 and is projected to reach US$ 65–70 billion by 2030, contributing nearly half of incremental e-retail growth. Delivery promises measured in minutes leave no slack for a support queue measured in hours.
Where margin actually leaks
For most Indian D2C and marketplace sellers the three recurring losses are cart abandonment, COD returns and repeat “where is my order” enquiries. Each is a messaging problem before it is a logistics problem — and each is addressable without adding headcount.
Organised retail and warehousing are scaling with it
Organised retail in India is projected to reach US$ 230 billion by 2030 (IBEF, retail page). The e-commerce warehousing market reached US$ 10.0 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach US$ 39.1 billion by 2034 at 16.42% CAGR. Inventory truth across marketplaces becomes the operational question.
