MNB Research · Company directory

India’s ₹1 lakh crore club, classified by industry.

Every Indian company above ₹1,00,000 crore in market capitalisation or annual revenue, grouped into 11 sectors. 82 companies, each figure cross-checked against two independent sources on the same trading day.

How to read this

Method, and what we will not claim

Market capitalisations are as at the close of 28 August 2026 and were taken independently from Screener.in and Groww. Where the two disagreed by more than 2% we recorded both rather than choosing the flattering one. Revenue is shown only where it independently clears ₹1 lakh crore.

Three cautions. Market caps move daily, so treat these as a dated snapshot rather than a live feed. Revenue is not comparable across sectors — for banks and insurers the figure is total income, which is a different measure from a manufacturer’s sales. And several companies sit within 15% of the threshold, so an ordinary market move takes them in or out.

We could not obtain exchange-primary quotes: NSE blocks automated access and BSE’s public endpoint returns classification data without market cap. Everything here therefore rests on two established data providers, not on NSE or BSE directly. We would rather say that than imply a precision we do not have.

Large private companies, ranked on revenue

Market capitalisation does not apply here, so these are ordered on disclosed revenue. Several are frequently confused with a similarly named sibling entity — where that risk exists, it is spelled out.

Corrections

Seven things most published lists still get wrong

Each of these was confirmed against filings, exchange intimations or company statements during compilation. All are recent enough that widely circulated directories still carry the superseded version.

Tata Sons has no confirmed future chairman

N Chandrasekaran told Tata Trusts on 12 August 2026 that he will not seek reappointment when his term ends on 20 February 2027. No successor has been named, and Noel Tata is constitutionally barred from holding both posts.

Vedanta’s demerger is complete

Record date 1 May 2026, listed 15 June 2026. Five listed entities now exist. “Vedanta Base Metals” was never separately listed, despite appearing in some coverage.

Jio Platforms is cleared to IPO

SEBI issued its observation letter on 28 August 2026, following a DRHP filed 19 June 2026. Fresh issue only, up to 27 crore shares. This is the shortest-shelf-life entry on this page.

Gopichand Hinduja died on 4 November 2025

The Hinduja Group website names no successor global chairman.

Godrej is led by Pirojsha Godrej

Effective 14 August 2026 — not Nadir Godrej, as many published profiles still state.

Murugappa has no group executive chairman

The Murugappa Corporate Advisory Board was dissolved in November 2020.

Two renames most lists still miss

LTIMindtree became LTM Limited (symbol changed 27 February 2026). Akzo Nobel India became JSW Dulux Limited on 11 March 2026.

Traps

Six places where two companies share one name

The commonest way a business directory becomes wrong is by summing two entities that describe the same revenue, or by attributing a listed company’s figures to its unlisted namesake.

Reliance Retail

Reliance Retail Ventures (holding, ₹3,70,026 cr gross) is not Reliance Retail Ltd (operating, ₹2,93,481 cr). Adding them double-counts the same business.

Flipkart

Flipkart India Pvt Ltd is the wholesale arm at ₹82,787 cr. Flipkart Internet Pvt Ltd is the marketplace at ₹20,493 cr. Only the first clears the bar.

Patanjali

Patanjali Ayurved Ltd is unlisted at ₹6,460 cr operating revenue. Patanjali Foods Ltd is listed at ₹34,289 cr. Different companies.

Amul

The Amul brand turnover exceeds ₹1,00,000 cr unduplicated. GCMMF’s own books show ₹73,450 cr. Both come from the same statement and mean different things.

Tata Sons

Consolidated revenue of ₹6,61,399 cr consolidates TCS, Tata Capital, Air India and Tata Electronics. Adding it to the listed entities double-counts them.

Cooperatives and statutory bodies

GCMMF, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, KMF and FCI have no listable equity. They belong in a separate category, not in a market-cap ranking.

Recent corporate actions

Six names that changed while everyone kept using the old ones

Directories go stale here first. Each of these is a legal rename or demerger completed recently enough that most published lists still carry the superseded name.

LTIMindtree → LTM Limited

Renamed with effect from 17 March 2026 on a fresh Certificate of Incorporation. The NSE ticker is now LTM; the old LTIM symbol no longer resolves.

Vedanta Ltd → demerged

Split into Vedanta Aluminium Metal, Vedanta Oil & Gas, Vedanta Iron & Steel and Vedanta Power, with a residual Vedanta Ltd holding zinc and copper.

Jindal Steel & Power → Jindal Steel

Renamed; the “& Power” is no longer part of the legal name.

Adani Transmission → Adani Energy Solutions

Renamed as the business broadened beyond transmission.

Tata Motors → split

Separated into a commercial-vehicles entity and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, which holds the PV, EV and Jaguar Land Rover businesses.

Siemens Energy India → demerged

Separated from Siemens Ltd as a standalone listed entity.

Why we publish this

These are not our clients. They are the benchmark our clients are measured against.

MNB Research builds AI systems for Indian SMEs, not for the companies on this list. We publish the list because the operating standard these firms set — instant response, 24/7 coverage, reconciled numbers — is the standard their smaller competitors are now judged by, usually without a comparable budget.

Each sector above maps to research and to products we already run. That mapping is the useful part of a directory like this.

Want this depth on your own market?

The ₹9,999 AI Transformation Assessment applies the same method to your business — your competitors, your numbers, and where AI actually pays. Credited back in full when you proceed.

Sources

Market capitalisation and revenue figures were taken independently from two providers on 28–29 August 2026 and reflect the 28 August 2026 close. Corporate actions were confirmed against company filings and press releases.

NSE and BSE primary quote endpoints were not accessible to automated retrieval, so no figure here is exchange-primary. Where our two sources diverged materially we recorded both. Figures are a dated snapshot, not a live feed.
